Issaquah Sew Fun Holiday Party participant showing off her fabulous crazy quilted stockings. (My apologies for the terrible photo!)
'Tis the season for the annual Sew Fun Holiday Parties around the Puget Sound. It's such fun to host these events, as we get to be merry with all of you, give away lots of door prizes, and best of all - get inspired for more sewing!
There have been lots of great ideas for using up those beautiful project leftovers. I don't know what it is about being a sewing enthusiast, but it is so difficult parting with all those little bits and pieces!
One terrific idea for using up your favorite scraps is to incorporate them into a crazy quilt. I really love these crazy quilt stockings - they are not only in one of my favorite colors, but if you could see closer they are stitched with all sorts of wonderful decorative stitches.
Other traditional quilting designs and techniques can also be incorporated into quick holiday projects.
Shown here is a bolster pillow made from silk tie fabric scraps, in a modified Log Cabin design. This project is from Nancy Zieman's _Serge With Confidence_, and because it is made by flatlocking the pieces together, it goes together very quickly. Of course you could substitute other sewn seams as well.
I think the modified Log Cabin design would look absolutely gorgeous as a table runner, don't you?
For the 'sticks and yarn' enthusiasts, there are also lots of great ideas for using small amounts of yarn in books such as _One Skein_. Or if you have the urge to knit up some ornaments, why not try one of those listed at Knitting Pattern Central.com - like the adorable Candy Cane Cozy? Or these UNBELIEVABLY cute and wonderful miniature sweater ornaments from Berocco. (Does Santa knit?)
It's been great chatting with you at the Holiday Parties - thanks as always for the inspiration!
